On Monday (9/14/15) at approximately 6:55pm, Ripley County Communications were notified of a personal injury accident in US 421 near the intersection of County Road 350 S.
Upon arrival, it was found that a red Pontiac Sunfire, with 6 passengers, had collided with a Rumpke Garbage Truck while traveling north on US 421. For unknown reasons, the garbage truck struck the Sunfire, causing the vehicle to spin out and leave the roadway.
It was found that none of the occupants in the Sunfire were restrained in the vehicle. All of the occupants in the Sunfire sustained injuries. They were identified at 23 year old Chealyn Colley; 31 year old Sarah Boese; 5 year old James Colley; 9 year old Jessee McIntosh; 9 year old Jennifer McIntosh; and 2 year old Joshua McIntosh.
Two of the children were flown from the accident scene to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and one was later flown from Kings Daughters Hospital. One of the adults was also flown from KDH.
The driver of the Rumpke truck was identified as 29 year old Johnathan Fulton.
The accident remains under investigation by Ripley County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Hunger. Deputy Hunger was assisted at the scene by the Indiana State Police, Milan Police Department, Versailles Fire Department, Rescue 69, Rescue 30, Ripley County Medic, Osgood Fire Department and KDH EMS.
