A Carroll County man was arrested yesterday morning following a robbery at two different gas stations in Carrollton. KSP Post 5 dispatchers received a call from Carrollton Police advising of an armed robbery at the Marathon Hop Shop in Carrollton at the intersection of KY 227 and I-71. While responding to the Marathon Hop Shop, KSP was informed by Carrollton Police of a report of another robbery at the Super America gas station located on Highland Avenue in Carrollton.
The description of the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle was identical in both robberies. In both robberies the suspect used a knife and the threat of violence to gain compliance of the employees inside. The suspect was described as a white male approximately 6 feet 1 inches tall, 220 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The vehicle was described as a silver 2007 Toyota pickup truck.
Upon arrival to the Marathon station Carrollton Police identified the suspect and suspect vehicle. The suspect fled the scene and Carrollton Police and KSP initiated a pursuit. The suspect, 19 year old Charles Tuttle, of Carrollton, was apprehended without incident after wrecking the vehicle he was operating on KY 55. Once in custody it was determined that Tuttle had stolen the truck from a residence in Carrollton.
Tuttle was charged by KSP with Robbery 1st, two counts of Wanton Endangerment of a Police Officer, Wanton Endangerment 1st, Burglary 2nd, Theft by Unlawful Taking over $10,000, Criminal Mischief 1st, Reckless Driving, Speeding 26 MPH or More Over Speed Limit, and Operating Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Drugs/Alcohol Aggravated. Tuttle was lodged at the Carroll County Detention Center.
The ongoing investigation of the vehicle theft and robbery at the Marathon is under investigation by Trooper Mickey Gonterman. The robbery of the Super American is under investigation by Carrollton Police Department.
