The Boone County Sheriff’s Office say a man has been arrested following a fatal accident in January on I-71 near Verona.
You may recall on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at approximately 9:30 a.m. a four vehicle conclusion took place on I-71 at the 73 mile marker near Verona and took the life of one of the drivers and sent two others to hospitals, one with life-threatening injuries.
A 2009 Peterbuilt tractor trailer driven by Christopher Thornhill, 33 of Rossburg, Ohio was northbound on I-71 when he sideswiped an unoccupied Chevrolet Cavalier (off the traveled portion), lost control and crossed the median traveling into the southbound lanes where he collided with two southbound vehicles.
On Wednesday, 5/27/2015 Christopher Thornhill was arrested in Darke County, Ohio on a Boone County Grand Jury indictment arrest warrant obtained by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction investigator, Deputy Mike Parsons, charging him with a total of 12 charges to include Manslaughter 2nd degree, Assault 2nd degree, Tampering with physical evidence, 4 counts Criminal Mischief 1st degree (felony), 3 counts federal D.O.T. log book violations, Communication device violation (texting), and a federal D.O.T. violation of using a cell phone in a commercial vehicle.
Deputy Parsons’ investigation revealed Thornhill’s log book to be false and was found to have been texting while driving. Thornhill deleted numerous text messages from his phone however Lieutenant Tom Webster of the B.C.S.O. Electronic Crimes Unit was able to recover them.
