One person was killed last night (4/24) in a crash on I-71 in Carroll County. Kentucky State Police dispatchers received a call of the collision at 8:47 p.m. Preliminary investigation shows that a passenger vehicle, driven by Andrew Vaughn of St. Louis, Missouri, was traveling North on I-71, when for unknown reasons exited the roadway and traveled down a steep embankment. Vaughn’s vehicle struck a tree, and a passenger, Charles R. Coburn, (58) of St. Louis, Missouri, suffered fatal injuries. Coburn was pronounced dead at the scene by the Carroll County Coroner. Vaughn was flown for serious injuries and his condition is unknown. Both Coburn and Vaughn were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
Trooper Tyler Hunter is leading the ongoing investigation. Trooper Hunter was assisted at the scene by the Ghent Fire Department, Carroll County Rescue, Carroll County EMS, and the Carroll County Coroner.
