November 25, 2018, at approximately 12:56 AM Jefferson County Sheriff Deputy C.J. Miller executed a traffic stop on Taft Drive near Michigan Road. The vehicle in question, 2018 Ford Explorer, was observed south bound on Michigan Road with no tail lights. The vehicle was found to have false license plates and the driver, along with the passenger, appeared to be extremely nervous when asked for proper identification.
Deputy Miller summoned Madison Police K-9 Officer Phillip Wimpee to the scene of the stop, along with his K-9 partner “Colt”. An open air sniff of the Explorer was conducted by K-9 Colt, in which a positive alert for narcotics was given. The subsequent search of the vehicle found the driver, identified as Johnathon C. Combs 25, Madison, Indiana, to be in possession of Methamphetamine level 6 felony, possession of a narcotic drug level 6 felony, possession of a legend drug level 6 felony and unlawful possession of a syringe level 6 felony. The passenger in the vehicle, Harley W. Combs 22, Madison, Indiana, was arrested for possession of marijuana class B misdemeanor.
Further investigation into the improperly registered Ford Explorer found the vehicle had been reported stolen, from Madison, on November 24, 2018. An additional charge of Auto theft was filed against Johnathon Combs, along with the previously stated narcotic charges. Both Johnathon Combs and Harley Combs were transported to the Jefferson County Jail where they await their initial court appearances’ on the preliminary alleged charges. Madison Police Lieutenant Season Jackson, and Deputy Brad Demaree assisted Deputy Miller with the investigation. All parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
