On November 6, 2018, the Madison Police Department received a complaint of drug activity inside of a hotel room at the Best Way Inn. After receiving the information, Ptl. Brittany Tate responded to the scene and made contact with the hotel room’s occupant, 44 year old Frank D. Szydlowski, of Richmond, Ohio. When Szydlowski opened the door, Ptl. Tate detected the odor of marijuana emitting from the hotel room. Ptl. Tate advised Szydlowski of the complaints received about his room, and Szydlowski admitted to having marijuana, THC “vape” cartridges, and controlled substances inside of the room. While speaking with Szydlowski, Ptl. Tate observed a second male, 41 year old Charles E. Furbee, of Moundsville, West Virginia, also inside of the hotel room.
Lt. Dan Slygh and Sr. Ptl. Jeremy Cox both responded to the Best Way Inn and assisted Ptl. Tate in her investigation. Ptl. Tate received consent from Szydlowski and Furbee to search their hotel room, and during the search, officers located methamphetamine, approximately one (1) ounce of marijuana, pills identified as a controlled substance, and narcotics related paraphernalia used to ingest methamphetamine. After completing the investigation, Szydlowski and Furbee were transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
Szydlowski was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and possession of a device to interfere with a drug screen. Furbee was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and possession of a device to interfere with a drug screen.
