On March 31, the Madison Police Department received a call in reference to a male subject that had pointed a firearm at them. Ptl. Phillip Wimpee arrived to speak to the victim. According to the victim, a male subject identified as Lamont Curtis Age 36 pointed a firearm at them and cocked the weapon. The victim stated that the male subject has a child with their current girlfriend. According to the male subject, he was going to speak to Lamont about the current custodial agreement between Lamont and the girlfriend. The victim stated that is when the firearm was pulled.
Based on the complaint, Ptl. Wimpee notified area departments. A short time later, Ripley County Sheriffs Department contacted the Madison Police Department and informed them they had stopped a vehicle that Lamont was driving. During the stop Ripley County Sheriffs Department located a .45 caliber handgun inside the vehicle.
Ptl. Wimpee drove to Ripley County and spoke to Lamont. According to Lamont no firearm was pointed at the victim. Also during the investigation, Lamont was found to be in possession of marijuana. Lamont was placed under arrest and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
Lamont C. Curtis was charged with: Pointing Firearm at Person and Possession of Marijuana.
