On Wednesday, January 31, 2018, deputies with the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle crash involving a school bus at US 50 and Old Michigan Road.
After investigation, deputies concluded that a South Ripley School bus, being driven by 66 year old Stephen Cranfill of Holton, was southbound on Old Michigan Road when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic. Cranfill pulled the bus into the path of an eastbound car on US 50 being driven by 35-year old Michael Hornberger of Batesville.
Hornberger was injured in the crash but refused medical transport. Cranfill was also injured in the crash and was transported to Margaret Mary Hospital.
No children were on the bus at the time of the crash.
The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Osgood Police Department, Holton Fire Department, Rescue 69, Ripley County EMS and the Versailles Fire Department.
