
Ohio County Sheriff Glen Potts pins a gold badge on Dee Smith while appointing him Chief Deputy.

Sheriff Glen Potts has appointed long-time deputy Dee Smith as the Chief Deputy of Ohio County.
Dee Smith replaces former Chief Deputy Chad Oakes who accepted a new position with the a federal agency.
Smith was appointed as an Ohio County Deputy by Sheriff Jim Conner in January 1984, where he worked as a deputy until March of 1986. In 1986 Deputy Smith obtained a position with the Rising Sun Police Department, where he held the rank of Sergeant and Chief of Police.
Deputy Smith left the field of law enforcement for approximately 10 years while employed at Brown Tool and Die in Rising Sun. Deputy Smith was not content working outside of law enforcement and in 2003 Dee Smith was appointed as a deputy under Sheriff Francis (Swede) Colen, Smith also worked two terms under Sheriff Eldon Fancher. Sheriff Glen Potts says no deputy knows Ohio County any better than Deputy Smith.
Chief Deputy Smith, along with Sergeant Zach Brown, will assist in the day to day supervision of the Sheriff’s Office.
