On December 6, 2017, Detectives Jonathon Simpson and Kurtis Wallace were patrolling the downtown area in an unmarked police vehicle. The Detectives noticed a female seated in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle in the city parking lot at Mulberry Street and Second Street. The vehicle was not running. The officers stopped to check on the welfare of the woman.
The woman initially refused to identify herself to officers. While speaking to the woman, officers conducted a registration check on the vehicle the woman was in and discovered the registered owner, identified as Marshall Banks, had an active arrest warrant through Floyd County, Indiana for possession of methamphetamine and carrying a handgun without a license.
As officers were speaking to the female, Marshall Banks, age 36 of New Albany, approached the officers on foot. He was taken into custody. During a search of Banks’ person, officers located more than 3 grams of a white substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Patrolman Phillip Wimpee and Lieutenant Bruce Heaton arrived to assist.
After a computer search of the name the female provided to officers they were able to identify the woman as Kristin Caid, age 38 of Louisville, Kentucky. It was discovered Caid had an active arrest warrant for escape out of Louisville. The two were arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
