December 27, 2016, @ approximately 12:00 PM Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Shane Gibson responded to the 3900 block of Pearl Street, Deputy, Indiana, reference a welfare check on an adult female. The male who answered the door was identified as Mark E. Thevenot 57, Deputy, Indiana. Thevenot stated the female in question was not at home, however during the conversation with the deputy, the female emerged from another location within the residence. Thevenot restrained the female from leaving and shut the door before Deputy Gibson could gain entry.
The perimeter of the residence was secured and the Madison Emergency Response Team was summoned to the scene. At approximately 6:00 PM, after numerous calls for Thevenot to surrender, he exited the residence without further incident. The victim was transported to KDH-ER by EMS for injuries allegedly sustained during an extended period of domestic abuse. Mark Thevenot was transported to the Jefferson County Jail on two alleged preliminary level 6 felony charges of battery and criminal confinement.
The Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Indiana State Police, Indiana State Police ERT, Indiana Excise, Madison Police Department, and Hanover Police Department. This is an ongoing criminal investigation led by Deputy Gibson with the assistance of Jefferson County Sheriff Detectives Denning and Armstrong
