DEARBORN & RIPLEY COUNTIES—Indiana Department of Transportation’s contractor for a $5 million slide correction project in Dearborn and Ripley counties plans to begin clearing operations next Monday (OCTOBER 31).
Beaty Construction plans to have personnel at a slide site on State Road 62 in Dearborn County at the slide located 3.64 miles east of the Ripley County line in Clay Township south of Dillsboro. Beginning Monday morning—weather permitting—workers will clear brush, trees and other obstructions from the area. During the week, motorists will be flagged around crews and equipment.
Next spring, Beaty will return to the S.R. 62 Dearborn County site to construct mechanically stabilized aggregate retaining walls across the slide area.
Clearing crews will move from Dearborn County to the slide site on S.R. 62 located three miles east of S.R. 129 in Brown Township in Ripley County, west of Friendship. This operation should begin the following Monday (NOVEMBER 7). It will continue for approximately three weeks. Again, flaggers will direct traffic when necessary.
At this Ripley County site, six retaining walls will be constructed next year to stabilize the embankment which measures 1400 feet in width. Work will be interrupted in June and September to accommodate National Muzzleloader Rifle Association events.
