On Tuesday, August 09, 2016 at approximately 1:00 a.m. Boone County Sheriff’s deputies and Burlington Fire Department were called to the 1,900 block of Timberwyck Lane in Burlington, Kentucky for a car that had exploded. Numerous callers from the apartment complex called in when they were awakened by the explosion.
First responders quickly recognized the explosion, which originated on the left front of the 2009 Honda Civic, was caused by a device the particulars of which are unknown at this time. Parts of the car were hurled some 100+ feet from the site.
The owners of the car were not home at the time and there is no reason to believe they were targeted however the investigation is in its infancy so no further determinations have been made other than there was a device used to cause the damage. The Boone County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division is handling the investigation with the support of the Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (ATF).
