On Saturday, July 16, 2016, the City of Madison Police Department learned of the passing of its canine, Eros. Eros’ handler, Captain Rick Mundt, was out of town on vacation with his family and Eros had been left in the care of Pets Doc Veterinary Clinic.
The staff at Pets Doc reported Eros was acting fine on Friday, July 15, and when they came in on the morning of Saturday he was found deceased.
Chief Thurston transported Eros to Purdue University for a necropsy to help determine the cause of death. Purdue University filed a report stating Eros suffered from Gastric Dilatation Volvulus, also known as Turned Stomach Syndrome.
Eros was responsible for countless arrests and made a difference in our community. He will be sorely missed by all members of the local law enforcement community.
Information regarding a memorial service will be announced soon.
