A single vehicle crash claimed the life of an Osgood man on Friday evening. Around 9:35pm, Indiana State Police along with the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department responded to the accident on State Road 229 near County Road 200 West.
Trooper Matt Holley’s investigation indicates that 36 year old Bret L. Brown, of Osgood, was traveling west on State Road 229 just to the east of Napolean when he lost control of a 1995 GMC Jimmy while trying to navigate a curve. The vehicle left the roadway and struck several trees, and then caught fire and burned.
Brown was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ripley County Coroner’s Office. The investigation also revealed that Brown was not wearing proper seatbelt restraints and speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
Trp. Holley was assisted by Trp. Travis Linville, deputies with the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, Napoleon Fire Department, and the Ripley County Coroner’s Office.
