On Sunday March 28, 2016 at approximately 08:31 P.M. Indiana Conservation Officers were contacted by Ripley County Sheriffs Department about an ORV accident involving injuries.
Ripley County Deputies were on scene and administered Standardized Field Sobriety testing on 39 year old Shawn Wirth, who was identified as the driver of the ORV.
Deputies determined Wirth had been operating the ORV while intoxicated and transported him to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville for a toxicology test.
Investigators determined Wirth had been operating the ORV in an unsafe manner, causing the vehicle to flip onto its drivers side. The rear passenger door opened, and pinned 18 year old Candice Roell’s leg to the ground. She was transported to the hospital for severe trauma to her leg.
After the tox screen, Wirth was placed under arrest and incarcerated at Ripley County Jail on the following charges: Operating While Intoxicated, Operating While Intoxicated Causing Endangerment, and Operating While Intoxicated with Serious Bodily Injury.
