On Monday, February 8, 2016, the Madison Police Department responded to a call of threats in the 1000 block of West First Street. Captain Rick Mundt, Sergeant Ben McKay and Patrolman Brandon Decker responded to the complaint.
Officers made contact with Christopher W. Walters (26) of Madison. Christopher made contact with officers from his second story apartment window. He advised officers that his uncle, James E. Walters (40) of Madison, was threatening him and his wife, Adriane W. Walters (22) of Madison. Christopher said James Walters made the threats while armed with a baseball bat. The confrontation was over a property dispute.
Patrolman Decker entered Christopher’s apartment to obtain further details. He noted that James Walters lives next door to Christopher and Adriane and that they would have to walk by James’ front door in order to leave.
Christopher and Adriane were able to provide officers with audio recordings of James Walters making threats of bodily harm to them. Officers made contact with James Walters and attempted to speak with him and Josephine Miller (38) of Madison, but they were uncooperative.
Officers took James Walters into custody without further incident. Before officers left the scene, they learned there was an active warrant for Christopher Walters. He was also taken into custody. Both James and Christopher Walters were transported to the Jefferson County Jail without further incident.
James E. Walters was charged with Criminal Confinement and Intimidation.
Christopher W. Walters was charged on a warrant for a Community Corrections Violation for Dealing a Controlled Substance.
