At approximately 3:00 p.m. the victim, Clerance E. Marker, 87, Dillsboro, was recovered by Indiana Conservation Officers. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ohio County Coroner.
This incident is still under investigation at this time.
Indiana Conservation Officers are considered the premier water emergency response agency in Indiana and would like to encourage all citizens who enjoy the outdoors to make a plan, tell someone where you will be and when you anticipate to return. This is particularly inherent when near water with severe elements such as cold temperatures, ice and snow.
So…why was he in the water ? Not enough ice to be fishing….he’s too old to be trapping beaver or muskrats…. more details.
To the best of my knowledge he was alone. Shorty had never married and enjoyed staying that way.
Mr. Marker was a good friend of mine as well as many others in the community. I think it’s a shame that someone such as yourself can stand there an say these kind of things about someone that you don’t know. It’s a shame that are people like youself in this world. Shame on you.
Very tragic, did he live alone? No way the old fella should have been even near a pond in these conditions. Dementia sometimes takes hold at this late stage of life,my heart goes out to his family.
