On December 22, 2015, at 4:03 PM Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department responded to a reported personal injury accident on Artillery Road in the J.P.G. Complex.
Madison Police Officer James Lee 42, was conducting an emergency vehicle operation training course, for several Charlestown Police Officers, when he lost control of the patrol car. The 2005 Ford Crown Vic patrol car, owned by Charlestown Police Department, left the travel portion of the roadway and rolled. The vehicle came to rest on its top with the officers remaining inside the vehicle.
Officer Lee received a laceration to the forehead, and was treated at KDH-ER. The Charlestown Police Officer, Brandon Lyons 22, was also treated at KDH-ER for complaints of pain to the head, neck, and back area. Other Charlestown officers were at the training scene, however were not in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Both officers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident, which was investigated by Deputy Josh Cochran of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. The vehicle sustained extensive damage.
