Indiana Conservation Officers have completed an investigation into an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) crash that occurred on July 9, 2016 in Dupont, which resulted in a juvenile passenger to be pinned underneath the vehicle and resulted in serious injury to his left arm.
Shawn Feutz, 38, Dupont, was the operator of a side-by-side seater ATV on private property off North Reynolds Rd. where it crashed and caused a juvenile passenger to sustain serious injury to his left forearm.
Feutz and a juvenile were seated inside the ATV, with two juveniles seated in the flat bed of the ATV while Feutz operated near a creek edge. Feutz lost sight of the edge and the ATV veered off the side, causing the ATV to roll and a juvenile seated in the bed to be pinned underneath. The juvenile’s radius and ulna of his left arm were broken during the crash.
No passengers or the operator were wearing a helmet, or the safety belts provided on the vehicle.
Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage citizens to use caution when operating on property with limited visibility. Citizens should also read and understand all occupancy capacities for each individual ATV. An informational sticker providing that information will be located on the vehicle itself.
