Around 8:30am on Thursday May 5th, Ohio County Deputies were called to investigate a personal injury accident in the 2600 block of State Road 156. Upon arrival, deputies observed two vehicles, a 2010 Mercury and a 2004 Hyundai, that had been involved in a near head on collision.
The drivers of both vehicles were entrapped with the Mercury down an embankment near the Ohio River. The passenger in the Mercury, identified as 78 year old Leona Adams of Florence, IN, complained of chest pain while the driver, identified as 78 year old Richard Adams, had no complaint other than being trapped. Both were transported to Dearborn County Hospital for precautionary reasons.
The driver of the Hyundai, 34 year old Raymond Byers of Sparta, was unconscious at the scene and was flown by helicopter to the University of Cincinnati Hospital.
Upon investigation of the scene, it was determined that one of the vehicles traveled left of center and that possible impairment was involved. The accident is currently still under investigation by the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office.
Assiting at the scene was the Indiana State Police, Rising Sun Fire Department, Ohio County Rescue, and Air Method.
