At 1:23am on Thursday 8/13/15, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department investigated a single vehicle, personal injury, accident on East State Road #56 near Eagle Hollow.
The vehicle driven by Jerude Iery 25, Bennington, Indiana, was East bound on Highway #56 when he struck a guard rail. It appears the vehicle slid out of control and also struck the guard rail on the North side of the road as well.
A passenger in the Iery vehicle, Harold Ballard, 23, Bennington, Indiana, apparently struck his arm on the guard rail causing a very serious injury. Iery left the scene of the accident, drove Ballard to KDH-ER, dropped him off, and left.
Madison Police Patrolman Craig Hahn located Iery operating the vehicle in question on Michigan Road, a short time later. Deputy Josh Cochran, who led the investigation, responded to the traffic stop and placed Iery under arrest after further investigation.
Iery faces preliminary alleged charges of Operating a vehicle while intoxicated-endangering a person, operating with a B.A.C. of .08%, driving while suspended, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. Iery is currently incarcerated at the Jefferson County Jail, where he waits his initial hearing on the preliminary alleged charges. Deputy Brent Bennett also assisted Cochran with the investigation
